Cornwall Pedigree Calf Show - October 2025
William had a very successful day at the Cornwall Pedigree Calf Show at the Royal Cornwall Showground. He won his Junior handler class and then went into the championship against the under 16s where he won overall to become Young Handler Champion 2025! Very well done, William and a big thank you to Liz and Nigel Bunkum for all their help and support once again. Well done to all involved at the Cornwall Farming, Food and Crafts Show.
NFU Tenants Conference - October 2025
Rob attends the NFU Tentants Conference at the Three Counties Showground, Malvern. This year's conference focussed on navigating agricultural policy, environmental schemes, and landlord-tenant relations looking at the challenges and opportunities facing tenant farmers today.
BBC 4 Farming Today - 17th October 2025
Rob was interviewed by BBC Radio 4 for their Farming today section about tenant farming in Cornwall and the importance of County Farms (listen from 2:15 mins).
Young Farmer's Clubs Visit - August and September 2025
We have been priviledged to welcome both Callington and Liskeard Young Farmer's Clubs respectively for farm visits. Rob was able to give both groups a tour of the farm and talk about running a farm business. We then all shared drinks and refreshments.
Show Season 2025
William has been practising for this year's show season with a South Devon calf called Phoenix owned by our near neighbours Liz and Nigel Bunkum. A huge thank you to Liz and Nigel for all their help and support over the season, it has been very much appreciated.
Holsworthy Show August 2025
William attended Holsworthy Show. What proved to be a very wet and soggy show didn't stop the turnout of cattle. William took 1st place Junior Beef Handler and went on to compete against two other young handlers (under 21s) to become reserve Junior Beef Handler. A huge well done to William and once again a massive thank you to Liz and Nigel.
William then went on to assist Ashley Rowe of Trewint Farm with their cow and heifer to won 1st place and then overall champion beef animal. Well done to Peter and Ashley Rowe of Trewint Farm.
Liskeard Show July 2025
William came 1st in the Junior beef handlers category and achieved Reserve Junior Beef Handler 2025. Well done to William and a huge thank you to Liz and Nigel for all their help and support once again.
Royal Cornwall Show June 2025
William started the season with a rather eventful first outting at The Royal Cornwall Show. Despite tough competition and a rather lively, slightly inexperienced calf - that dragged William over resulting in very muddy whites and a bleeding nose - he cleaned himself off to get back into the ring to win a hard fought 3rd place. Well done, William! Congratualtions to all involved.
Cornish Times - Liskeard Show July 2024
William had his first newspaper appearance with photograph and interview in the Cornish Times alongside South Devon calf King Billy.
Show Season 2024
Royal Cornwall
Matt took his calf King Billy and his mother to The Royal Cornwall Show and what an achievement as King Billy was awarded 1st place in the beef calf category. Amazing achievement - well done Matt!
Day 3 of the show saw William take part in the Beef Young Handlers and was awarded 2nd place. Well done!
Fantastic achievement for their first time at Royal Cornwall.
Liskeard Show
A great day at Liskeard Show saw King Billy acheive yet another 1st place in the Beef calf category and William also achieving 1st place in the beef young handlers category and then going on to achieve Reserve Beef Young Handler. Well done to both Matt and William!
Launceston Show
A damp day at Launceston Show saw King Billy unhappy in the ring deciding to have a sit down, but despite this William was awarded 3rd place in the Beef Young Handlers. King Billy then went out in the ring for the cow and calf class with Matt, but missed out on a top place.
Lambing 2023 has started!
On Friday we welcomed the first new arrivals to the farm with a set of twins and a single. Roll on the rest of April!
New NFU role for Rob
Rob has extended his role witihn the NFU and has been voted in as South West Regional Chair, which he will do alongside his role as Tentants Representative. Good luck, Rob.
Matt joins the Cornish Valley Farming Team - February 2023
We are very pleased to welcome Matt to the Cornish Valley Farming team. He brings a wealth of farming experience, especially working with cattle and as a machinery operator. Welcome Matt!

Winner! South West Farmer - Tenant Farmer of the Year Award!!
Rob has won the South West Farmer Award, Tenant Farmer of the Year! A huge congratulations to Rob and the whole team who support Cornish Valley Farming. Well done to all the finalists at the awards evening on Thursday 10th November 2022, which was held at the Woodbury Hotel in Exeter.

New Romney rams join us from Wales
We welcomed two new rams to the farm (October 2022). Yet to be named! Any suggestions do let us know! They are looking forward to meeting the ewes in early November.
BBC Spotlight Film at the farm
We welcomed BBC Spotlight to the farm (28th September 2022) to interview Rob regarding the Government's approach to BPS (Basic Payment Scheme) changes for farmers and the likely impacts that this may have for the wider community.
They were here all morning and took some great footage of the farm and livestock, as well as some super aerial photographs of the farm using their drone.
The interview aired that evening on the 6pm news.

Rob has been interviewed in this week's Farmer's Weekly Podcast (15th August 2022) where he is discussing the current drought conditions here in the South West and our approach to how we are dealing with feeding our animals.

Rob has featured in this week's Farmer's Weekly (12th August 2022) in an article all about the current drought weather conditions. We, like others, have dipped into our winter forage in order to feed our animals due to lack of grass growth in these burnt out conditions.

NFU County Chairman
Rob has taken up the role of NFU Cornwall County Chairman for the next two years, as well as retaining his role as Tenants Representative. See his monthly articles in the NFU Farmer and Grower magazine.
European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development in partnership with DEFRA grant funding (CPSG)
Cornish Valley Farming has benefitted from support from The European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD): Europe Investing in rural areas grant funding in association with the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA).
The Countryside Activity Small Grant Scheme (CPSG) provided funding to help with continuing to improve our health and welfare including animal handling facilities and the use of technology within farming.
BBC Radio Cornwall Visit Farm
BBC Radio Cornwall came to the farm to interview us about life as County Council Farming tenants and progression planning for the future. The County Farms team talked about their new strategy.
Investment in the Future
Today has been about investment in the future! As we go into our eleventh year of forage wagon work we have made the move to a second wagon. The 3601 will offer more capacity and as a smoother service on bigger cuts. We are committed to wagoning as our stand alone grass service and it recieves our full attention without distraction. We now have excess capacity and are keen to grow our run. Please get in touch if you would like to talk through the system.
New Addition to the Cornish Valley Farming Team
This week (November 2019) we welcomed the newest addition to the team, baby Isla. Both Louise and Isla are doing well.

Cornish Valley Farming Relocates!
After a busy few months, September 2017 has seen us finally move to the new farm. After a mammoth effort from family members with not only helping to move the contents of our house, all our belongings but also all the sheep and cattle, we are now based just 5 miles down the road in Quethiock, near Liskeard. Thank you to everyone who helped us.
Rob wins at Cornwall Farm Business Awards

Cornish Valley Farming Rebrand
January 2017 saw Cornish Valley Farming launch a re-brand with a new logo designs. A huge thank you to Sarah Farrell, Graphic Designer, for the new designs.
Duchy College Visit Farm
In November 2016 we welcomed Duchy College students to the farm for their annual tendering exercise along with a County Farms agent. They walked the farm and gathered information as part of their course task.
New member to the Cornish Valley Farming Team
May 2016 saw us welcome our newest addition to the Cornish Valley Team, baby William. Both Louise and William are doing well.

Strautmann Giga 1 has arrived!
April 2013 saw us take delivery of our Strautmann Giga 1 Forage Wagon. We are now taking bookings for the up and coming season.
